March 25, 2010, page 11
April is National Poetry Month!
It’s an all-ages, month-long poetry celebration. We’ll provide poetry paper and pencils as well as books to inspire your imagination. You can write your poem here at the Library or drop off your poetry in our poetry drop box by April 30. Poetry will be displayed through the month of May.
April DIY Craft: Don’t be a Grouch, put a poem in your pouch!
National Poetry Month is back, and this year we’re making pouches to hold your favorite poems. Stop by the DIY craft table to fashion a fabulous felt poem pouch. Fill your pouch with poems to share on April 29 “Poem in Your Pocket” Day.
AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM:
Create-A-Kite Challenge
Monday, April 19: 3 to 4:30 p.m.
The Big Wind Kite Factory in Hawaii claims that 20 kites can be made in 20 minutes. Let’s see if we can meet the challenge! We’ll have a variety of kite patterns and some fun recycled materials to work with. For children grades 1 to 4. Registration required, please call the Library to sign up. Children must bring a note to CCS giving them permission to ride the bus to the Library after school.
SPRING VACATION PROGRAM:
Do the Twist Pretzel Festival
Thursday, April 29: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
In honor of National Pretzel Day (April 26), we’re holding a pretzel party! Make yourself into a human pretzel playing Twister, create a pretzel cabin and bake up some pretzels to take home. For children ages 3 and up; children 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required, please call the Library to sign up.
Book discussion continues:
The library book group will discuss The Mistress of Spices by Chitra Divakaruni (copies available at the library) at its next meeting on Thursday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. This is the third book in the four-part Gastronomy series with discussion leader Lesley Wright. The series is free, open to the public, and the library is accessible to people with disabilities.
Special sale:
Books on CD have replaced books on cassette, and DVDs have replaced videotapes. The library recently removed these from the collection. The Friends of the Library will run a one-night sale of both adult and children’s books on cassette and videos on Monday, April 12, from 4-7 p.m. Be sure to stop in to pick up your favorites at very low prices.
