Congratualtions

to Samantha Lane, a student at the Essex Center for Technology who was one of 53 inducted into the National Technical Honor Society on March 24. Samantha joined six fellow CVU students in the recognition. The honor society rewards student achievement and leadership and is the highest national award for excellence in career and technical education.

to Tom Manchester and Anne Svoboda of Denver, Colorado, who were married April 10. Both are physicians completing their residencies in June, at which time they will move to Fort Morgan, Colorado, to begin their work at the Colorado Plains Medical Center and prepare for board examinations. Tom is the son of Kathy and Jim Manchester of Charlotte. A graduate of Charlotte Central School and CVU High School, he attended medical school at the University of Vermont.

to Massachusetts Maritime Academy Cadet Sara Korejwa of Charlotte who received this year’s Master’s Award for her outstanding work during her class’s “Sea Term.” The term is a month-and-a-half training at sea to complement students’ classroom work and complete their academic requirements. Captain Thomas Bushy presented Sara with the award, saying that recipients work a little harder, take time to do a better job, and provide “a higher level of enthusiasm to every task they are given.”

to Hayden Kjelleren, a student at Charlotte Central School, who was one of the top individual finalists in the Vermont State Math Meet. Hayden and his fellow competitors in the state meet were selected from the District Math Counts held in February.

to Carl Partelow of Charlotte whose work was featured in an April 25 Burlington Free Press article by Lynn Monty on his crafting of new wooden items from scrap lumber. He is quoted in the article as being excited about the availability of lumber from old sheds and barns in Vermont that can be turned into pieces to be “passed on for generations.” He is currently making a grandfather clock out of pine pallets.

to Robert and Dina (Yerofiyoval) Sprayregen on the birth of their twin sons Dimitri and Daniel on April 15 at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington.

to Patty McMullen who was recognized for her work as a mentor with Community Friends Mentoring. This is Patty’s fourth year with the program, and she was recently named to a newly formed advisory committee.

is extended to family and friends of Jacquelyn Prouty of Essex Junction who passed away April 19 at Vermont Respite House at the age of 70. Her surviving family includes her niece, Marian Paris of Charlotte. The family asks that contributors please specify that their donation is in remembrance of Jacquelyn Prouty for Uterine Cancer Research.

is extended to family and friends of Donald Paul Companion of Winooski who passed away April 24 at the age of 81. His surviving family includes his son Derrick and Derrick’s wife Jennifer of Charlotte. is extended to family and friends of Henry Gebo of Panton who passed away May 2 at the age of 64. Henry’s was a familiar face behind the meat counter of the Shelburne Supermarket for many years.
