Selectboard and CCS School Board Begin the Budget Revision Process
Selectboard and CCS School Board Begin the Budget Revision Process
March 7, 2010

Discussions of revisions to their respective budgets will begin at the Selectboard and CCS School Board meetings this week. The Selectboard meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, March 8, in the Town Hall, and the School Board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, in the CCS library.

The Selectboard was tasked by the voters at Town Meeting with reducing the Town budget by $71,661. Despite the Board’s asking for guidance from the voters, the hard decisions were left to them. Fire & Rescue Services offered to forgo the $12,000 increase in their appropriation, with the caveat that they need more volunteers so there is less need for paid rescue staff.

By Australian ballot, the voters rejected the $7,119,583 CCS budget for 2010-2011, which was 1.65% less than the current year budget. The Board will review the results of an exit poll taken at town meeting and will give the public opportunities to provide input. A second vote by Australian ballot will have to be scheduled for later this spring.

The School Board held their reorganization meeting on March 3. Lynne Jaunich was elected as chair, Sue Thibault as vice-chair, and new board member Kristin Wright as clerk. The board reps to the Chittenden South Supervisory District Board are Sue Thibault, Dan Luce, and Lynne Jaunich. The teacher negotiation team representatives will continue to be Lynne Jaunich and retired CCS Board chair Patrice Machavern.

The Selectboard will also reorganize for the new year at Monday’s meeting, and deal with other issues such as purification of the Town Beach Well and action on the outhouse at the Flea Market.
